Hardeep Singh Puri, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, delivered a video message at the 7th India Sanitation Awards. He highlighted that the work of the Swachh Bharat (Clean India) programme in cities has dramatically increased recycling in urban areas, with over 76 per cent of total waste now being recycled, a significant jump from 17 per cent in 2014. Puri attributed this significant progress to the transformative initiatives taken by the government, which have been a catalyst for behavioural change towards cleanliness in the country. The Swachh Bharat Mission along with Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) has played a crucial role in improving sanitation across India.

AMRUT has also played a crucial role in addressing the shortage of basic sanitation infrastructure by adding 172 million water taps and 135 million sewerage connections in cities, the minister emphasised.

In a video message, Minister Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that India is on track to fully achieve the goals of Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) Phase II by 2025. Shekhawat highlighted the remarkable progress in rural sanitation under the SBM-Grameen initiative. He emphasised the crucial role of public-private partnership in this success.
