Third quarter marks growth in agricultural jobs in South Africa
According to figures released by Statistics South Africa, the employment figures in primary agriculture saw a notable 10% increase year-on-year and a 7% increase quarter-on-quarter, with approximately 956,000 individuals employed in this sector.
This growth in employment was particularly prominent in various regions across South Africa, including the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, North West, and Gauteng. The Senior Agricultural Economist, Paul Makube, reported a significant upturn in agricultural employment during the third quarter, which helped counterbalance the decrease in livestock production and contributed to the overall positive trend. This is reported by
Pretoria News, a partner of TV BRICS.
Good production conditions in South Africa’s agricultural sector are having a positive impact on employment.
He also buttressed that the increase in the number of jobs represents a positive step in addressing the unemployment problem in the country.
