Africa’s transportation and logistics costs amount to $47 billion, according to the AfCFTA Secretariat

The AfCFTA Secretariat has designated the automotive industry as one of the top four priority sectors

According to the AfCFTA secretariat, the automotive industry is among the top sectors offering significant opportunities for enhancing intra-African trade and industry. This is reported by

At the Auto Forum of the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2023), Themba Khumalo from the AfCFTA Secretariat emphasized the significant impact of logistics on the automotive industry. Khumalo highlighted that Africa currently invests $47 billion in transportation and logistics. He also emphasized the need to develop trade and transport corridors, enhance customs procedures, and utilize modern technology to facilitate trade within the African market.

He stated that the secretariat collaborates with partners to address challenges, including the establishment of trade corridors, focusing on key success factors rather than attempting to tackle everything simultaneously. The AfCFTA secretariat acknowledged that the Ghanaian government is actively working on an industrialization policy, particularly for the car industry.

Khumalo reiterated that their presence at the exhibition is aimed at providing assistance, achieving sustainability, maximizing investments, and conveying the message that countries can benefit from the agreement and create new value.
