The government of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has authorised another resumption of previously suspended works in six states, which are now included in the new Programme for Accelerating Economic Growth (PAC). This included the states of Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Sao Paulo and Mato Grosso. The works cover various areas, including water supply and sewer construction, slope protection and urban infrastructure, and aim to improve the quality of life of the population.

According to the Ministry of Urban Affairs, the works will involve significant investments totalling more than R$563.5 million (US$109.3 million), which will create around 12,200 jobs and reach around 70,000 families.

Minister of Urban Affairs Jader Filho officially announced the resumption of work at a meeting in Brasilia, where he received parliamentarians and representatives of state and municipal authorities involved in the project, as reported by Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS.

“The President indicated that his government must work together with mayors, and that’s what we are doing: bringing public policies to municipalities, renewing programmes such as Minha Casa Minha Vida (My House My Life) and PAC projects to guarantee a high quality of life for all citizens,” he added.
