Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi strengthens diplomatic ties in Russia ahead of Putin’s historic visit to Beijing

The two giants promise to strengthen mutual trust

China’s Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, has arrived in Russia for a four-day trip that marks a milestone in preparations for a possible historic visit by President Vladimir Putin to Beijing in October. During the trip, the two world giants intend to strengthen mutual political trust and discuss a wide range of issues.

Wang Yi, who heads China’s Foreign Ministry as well as the Communist Party’s foreign affairs office, will hold meetings with senior Russian officials, including Secretary of the Security Council Nikolai Patrushev. The focus will be on the annual security talks, underscoring the importance of the two countries’ cooperation on world stability.

Wang Yi’s talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov will cover a wide range of issues, including the development of “increasingly high-level contacts”. This signals a desire to strengthen the relationship and dialogue between China and Russia at the highest levels, as reported by
Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS.

Wang Yi’s trip is expected to be an important stage of preparation for President Vladimir Putin’s expected visit to Beijing. Chinese President Xi Jinping has invited Putin to the third Belt and Road Forum in the Chinese capital, and the meeting between the Chinese Foreign Minister and his Russian counterparts will help establish a basis for the successful organisation of the event.

Vladimir Putin has already attended the first two Belt and Road Forums in 2017 and 2019, which shows the importance and duration of cooperation between Russia and China under this initiative.

This visit and talks between representatives of the two countries emphasise China and Russia’s desire to strengthen their relations and continue joint efforts in addressing global challenges, creating a basis for future cooperation.
