Leaders of China, India and Brazil arrive in South Africa for the BRICS Summit of Heads of State

Xi Jinping, Narendra Modi and Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva have travelled to South Africa to attend the 15th BRICS Summit

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will receive each counterpart from the five countries. Also, the heads of India, China and Brazil will hold bilateral meetings with each other on the margins of the summit, as reported by
Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.

The 15th BRICS Summit will be an opportunity to review the progress of initiatives put forward by the group and determine the future direction of the alliance.

Brazil’s Foreign Ministry said 22 countries have already formally expressed interest in joining BRICS. There are also plans to discuss the use of local currencies for commercial transactions.

The last stage of the event will feature an expanded meeting of representatives of BRICS member countries and delegates from about 40 invited countries, mainly heads of state and government of countries interested in joining the bloc from Africa, South America, the Caribbean and Asia.

There will also be a China-Africa Leaders’ Roundtable scheduled for 24 August in the context of the BRICS+ Dialogue, which will bring together representatives from the Global South and the African continent.

The BRICS Heads of State will then head to other countries for scheduled visits, with Narendra Modi visiting Greece and Lula la Silva travelling to Angola, followed by Sao Tome and Principe.
