President Mnangagwa honours four laureates with distinguished service awards

Women shine bright at Honours and Awards Ceremony on Heroes Day

Women dominated this year’s Honours and Awards ceremony which coincided with Heroes Day. During the event, President Emmerson Mnangagwa presented awards to four individuals, with three of them being women, in recognition of their outstanding service.

Under the administration of the Second Republic, an Honours and Awards ceremony was instituted to acknowledge Zimbabweans who have made significant contributions in inspiring others and advancing the country’s development, as reported by
ZBC news, a partner of TV BRICS.

This year President Mnangagwa honored Dr. Sikhulile Moyo with the Silver Order of the Great Zimbabwe award for identifying the omicron variant of the Covid-19 virus in November 2021, which marked a significant breakthrough in combating the pandemic.

The Angel of Hope Foundation, represented by the country’s First Lady Dr Auxilia Mnangagwa, was awarded the Jairos Jiri Humanitarian Award for the organisation’s work in combating social ills.

Ambassador Mary Mubi was awarded the Order of the Star Zimbabwe-Gold for her outstanding achievements in public service, defence and security, while Dr Agnes Mahomva was awarded the Order of the Star of Zimbabwe-Silver for her national management of the Kovid-19 pandemic.

The day commenced with the Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces President Emmerson Mnangagwa, inspecting a quarter guard, in honor of the courageous sons and daughters who valiantly fought for Zimbabwe’s independence.

During the ceremony, the President, Vice Presidents, and senior government officials paid tribute by laying wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and beneath the Rolls of Honour.

This day serves as a reminder that the contributions of every individual, including women, play an important role in Zimbabwe’s development, progress and independence. The celebration of heroic valour and selfless service is an inspiration to all to strive for the best and build a strong, united future for the country.
