China urges BRICS countries to play stronger role in global AI governance

A Foreign Ministry spokesman said China is willing to work with all countries to create an open, inclusive, and fair environment for AI development

Beijing has expressed its willingness to work with all stakeholders for artificial intelligence (AI) development. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said this at a briefing in Beijing, commenting on Brazil’s initiative to put AI governance on the agenda of the BRICS leaders’ summit in July.

“In the development and governance of AI, countries should support each other and grow together, make sure that all countries enjoy equal rights, opportunities, and rules, and working hand in hand,” Lin Jian stated, as reported by
CCTV+, a partner of TV BRICS.

He added that China is willing to work with all countries to create an open, inclusive, and fair environment for AI development so that all countries can benefit from its advantages. “AI is a shared asset of all humanity,” Lin said.

Earlier, Brazil advocated for inclusive governance of artificial intelligence (AI) on the global stage, placing it among the key priorities for discussion within the G20 and BRICS.
