Dr. Corné Mulder takes over the helm at FF Plus

The Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) has a new leader. Member of Parliament Dr. Corné Mulder was elected uncontested as President at the party’s elective conference which took place in Pretoria today.

This follows Dr. Pieter Groenewald, who has been at the helm of the party for the last nine years, declining to run for re-election.

FF Plus MP Wouter Wessels explains, “Dr. Groenewald did step down this morning as leader. He did not avail himself again to be elected and he said he has reached the end of the season in which he led the FF Plus. He became leader in 2016 and he decided at it is time at this stage to focus on his role as Minister and his role in Cabinet and the Government of National Unity and that he gives over the reins of the party to a new leader and that new leader Corné Mulder was elected uncontested.’

The party says that its members and supporters can be assured that despite new leadership, the party’s core values remain the same.

“There is a lot of support for Dr. Groenewald out there, a lot of people who believe in him who voted for us because they associate with him and they do have respect for his stances and his character. But we believe that we are a new leadership and we have the same core values and we will communicate that and he will also communicate that that he did not go away from the party and he is still playing his role as minister.”
