Indonesian ministries sign MoU to enhance village development through environmental sustainability

Indonesia pushes forward with sustainable village development through inter-ministerial collaboration

The Indonesian government is taking strides towards the creation of independent and sustainable villages through a new collaboration between the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions.

On 17 February 2025, the two ministries signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing village development while prioritising environmental sustainability. This is reported by
ANTARA News.

The MoU was formalised by Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq and Villages Minister Yandri Susanto in Jakarta, marking the beginning of a joint initiative to align village development programmes with effective environmental management practices. This collaboration focuses on empowering local economies while implementing eco-friendly policies through various strategic approaches.

A key element of the partnership is the strengthening of village-owned enterprises through the circular economy model and the Climate Village Programme. This initiative aims to boost the sustainability of village economies by encouraging the use of renewable resources and the reduction of waste.

Both ministries are committed to increasing environmental awareness and providing educational programs that equip village communities with the skills necessary for sustainable resource management.

These efforts aim to foster a culture of environmental stewardship, ensuring that economic growth in rural areas does not come at the cost of ecological preservation.
