website of the group.
“We gather in the birthplace of the Sustainable Development Agenda to reaffirm our commitment to building a just world and a sustainable planet, while leaving no one behind,” the declaration reads.
In the 22-page document, the group’s heads of state and government put forward proposals based on the priorities of the Brazilian G20 presidency, which include social inclusion and the fight against hunger and poverty, sustainable development, energy transition and the fight against climate change, as well as the reform of global governance institutions.
In particular, the countries favoured strengthening cooperation on the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI), taking into account the views of developing states. They agreed to responsibly implement AI in various fields, including healthcare and education.
The summit also committed to work with digital platforms to combat misinformation, emphasising the need for transparency.
On reforming global governance institutions, the leaders called for reform of the UN Security Council by increasing the representation of African, Asia-Pacific, Latin American and Caribbean countries in the organisation.
“The declaration reaffirmed that it is necessary to raise and strengthen the voice of the world’s majority countries in all leading political and economic bodies – from the UN Security Council to the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank”
