Chinese scientists propose creation of sustainable and healthy eating patterns

These models could significantly improve the eating habits of the population and contribute to environmental sustainability

A team of researchers from the She School of Public Health at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, recently published a paper on nutrition. This is reported by
China Daily, a partner of TV BRICS.

The study, based on the eating habits, environmental resources and economic development levels of different regions in China, developed a localised healthy and sustainable eating plan called the Regional Reference Diet.

“It guides residents in various regions to have sustainable diets and provides practical and feasible solutions for achieving the goals of building a ‘Healthy China’ and sustainable development,” commented Liu Yan, associate professor at the university.

Liu Yan emphasised that a sensible diet should take into account nutrient needs, promote health and sustainable development of the planet’s resources.

Liu also noted that Guangdong’s traditional cuisine offers many vegetables and seafood that are healthy, and emphasised the benefits of the Mediterranean diet.
