Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has expressed the country’s keen interest in joining the group.
Prabowo highlighted the strategic advantages of BRICS membership, especially in expanding global partnership. He noted that several neighbouring countries, including Thailand and Malaysia, have also expressed interest in joining the group.
In turn, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said that China welcomes the accession of new countries of Indonesia to BRICS. This is reported by

Indonesia is an important major developing country and emerging economy, which has actively involved itself in “BRICS Plus” cooperation in recent years, he added.
“BRICS is an open and inclusive mechanism, and we welcome more like-minded partners, including Indonesia, to join the BRICS family,” said the spokesperson.
Earlier, the Indonesian Foreign Ministry said that Jakarta representatives at an outreach/BRICS Plus meeting on the sidelines of the XVI BRICS summit in Kazan announced their intention to join the association.
