Limpopo ANC remembers Mboweni as a disciplined comrade

The African National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo has expressed sadness on the passing of former Labour, Finance Minister and Reserve Bank Governor Tito Mboweni. Mboweni died at the age of 65 at a Johannesburg hospital following a short illness on Saturday evening.

His funeral arrangements are currently under way at Sasekani village outside Tzaneen.

The funeral will take place on Saturday.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared Mboweni’s funeral a Special Official Funeral Category 2 in Mboweni’s honour.

Party Spokesperson Jimmy Machaka says Mboweni is being remembered as a disciplined party member.

“Firstly, we welcome the decision of the government to give him an official funeral. We have been advised that the funeral is categorised as Category 2. Internally, as an organisation, we are still engaging with regards to possible memorial services either before or after the funeral. Once that decision has been made, we will then confirm to the public and the media.”

Machaka added that Mboweni championed corruption-free governance.

“You will remember Tito Mboweni for the love he always expressed for the movement. We will remember comrade Tito as one of the leaders who was robust in engaging on matters in public discourse and matters affecting the organisation internally. We will remember him as one of the disciplined comrades. When the organisation has taken decisions even if he is not happy about them, he would never go out in public and speak about those decisions.”
