UAE urges creation of parliamentary climate action committees at 149th IPU Assembly
Discussions focused on the critical role of parliamentarians in preventing issues related to natural resources
The UAE has called for the formation of climate action committees within parliaments around the world to address the urgent challenges of climate change. This is reported by
Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS.
The Federal National Council’s members outlined key proposals from the UAE, stressing the importance of establishing climate action committees to drive the development of science-based climate policies.
They also advocated for greater collaboration with scientific institutions to enhance data collection and support local climate action plans. Moreover, parliaments need to establish closer partnerships with international organisations to ensure proper financing and expertise of environmental initiatives.
During the meeting, discussions focused on the critical role of parliamentarians in preventing issues related to natural resources.
The 149th IPU Assembly, held from 13 to 17 October 2024, centres on the theme “Harnessing Science, Technology, and Innovation for a Peaceful and Sustainable Future,” providing a platform for delegates to explore global solutions and reinforce parliamentary actions on key global challenges.
