Gungubele urges committee to ensure SABC Bill is finalised urgently

Communications and Digital Technologies Deputy Minister, Mondli Gungubele, has again emphasised the importance of the finalisation of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) Bill.

The SABC appeared before Parliament’s Portfolio Committee to present its 2023-2024 annual reports and financial statements.

The Bill which has been in the pipeline for nearly 16 years seeks to change the SABC’s funding model.

Gungubele has called on the committee to ensure that the Bill is finalised urgently.

He says, “The SABC Bill needs to be fast-tracked because the current methodology of actually procuring these fees has proven not to work. It again speaks to the Bill, SABC has already stated today that R800 million is not funded. A lot is done on the policy side that needs to be done.”
