Tensions between DA and ANC in Gauteng continue to grow

Tensions between the Democratic Alliance (DA)  and the African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng continue to grow, with the DA revealing during a media briefing that the provincial government is withholding reports related to corruption.

Relations between the two parties have soured, particularly after the removal of former Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink, a DA member, and him being replaced by Dr Nasiphi Moya of ActionSA.

The shift in leadership marks a departure from the cooperation typically seen between the DA and ANC within the Government of National Unity (GNU) framework.

Solly Msimanga, Leader of the Opposition in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, highlighted the issue of unreleased forensic reports.

“We’re sitting with over 58 forensic reports that for the longest time since 2016 have not come to the fore. Some people have been suspended, automatically then they are reinstated without us even understanding where the investigations have gone, what were the recommendations, and what ultimately would have happened in that,” says Msimanga.

He further states, “The forensic investigations undertaken by the Gauteng Provincial Government are meant to uncover any corrupt activities within the government. By releasing these, the Premier would demonstrate that the government is serious about dealing with corruption and has nothing to hide.”

Gauteng DA holds media briefing on Panyaza Lesufi “corruption coverup”

The DA in Gauteng has warned that it will approach the Presidency if the Gauteng Government continues to withhold forensic investigation reports conducted since 2016.

The party has been urging Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi to make these reports public but has received no feedback.

According to Msimanga, there are 170 forensic reports that have not been released.

Msimanga adds, “Premier Lesufi needs to do the right thing and make sure that they release those reports and release them with a matter of urgency. We need to make sure that these forensic reports are released to us and we are again putting another application to them today to make sure that we get these reports. Failure to, we will be left with no option but to approach the Presidency in this regard because this is not a matter that can continue unabated.”
