UAE’s Minister of Energy and Infrastructure: UAE makes significant progress in increasing contribution of clean energy production to total energy mix

Al Mazrouei remarked on the UAE’s commitment to fostering investment in clean and renewable energy

The UAE has made significant strides in developing clean energy production, with 27.83 per cent of the country’s total energy mix coming from clean energy sources in 2023, according to Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei. The country is on track to achieve an ambitious target of 32 per cent clean energy by 2030.

In an exclusive interview with the
Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS, Al Mazrouei highlighted the progress made. “From 2019 to 2022, the UAE has succeeded in doubling its renewable energy capacity as part of the UAE Energy Strategy to triple the installed capacity by 2030, towards our commitment to achieve the energy transition targets as per the UAE Consensus at COP28,” said Al Mazrouei.

He also noted that renewable energy capacity will grow by 70 per cent to reach 6.1 gigawatts by 2023.

Al Mazrouei also emphasised the UAE’s commitment to investing in clean energy. These efforts are in line with the UAE’s Energy Strategy 2050.

In addition, Al Mazrouei said the UAE aims to reduce energy demand in the industrial sector by 33 per cent by 2050. He also noted the approval in April 2023 of a new policy governing the energy services market aimed at strengthening co-operation between the government, the private sector and energy companies.
