President Cyril Ramaphosa says he is convinced that the Government of National Unity (GNU) will not only survive but will thrive.
He made the comments in his weekly newsletter released this morning.
Ramaphosa says while there will be a difference in political and ideological perspectives among GNU partners, he acknowledges that there will be times when these differences will become more apparent.
He has referenced the Basic Education Laws Amendment (BELA) Bill, which was signed into law last week.
Due to the opposition from the Democratic Alliance (DA), Ramaphosa has delayed the implementation of clauses four and five for three months to allow negotiations with parties in the GNU.
He says while he has considered all the various submissions, he has no such reservations about the BELA Bill as the Constitution has obliged him to assent to it.
Ramaphosa says he will, however, give the parties time to discuss issues of school admissions and language proposals on the relevant clauses.
He adds that they cannot guarantee that the parties that have requested timeout to engage will reach agreement on every difficult issue, but every effort to find common ground must be made.
