UAE celebrates the centenary of the International Chess Federation

The torch relay was organised by the Abu Dhabi Chess and Mind Games Club under the patronage of the Abu Dhabi Sports Club

Celebrations to mark the centenary of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) were held at a shopping centre in Abu Dhabi. This is reported by
Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner TV BRICS.

Abu Dhabi was chosen as the venue for the centenary celebrations as it has become the capital of world sporting events, having strengthened its position after winning the bid to host the 2028 World Chess Olympiad.

As part of the celebrations, the Abu Dhabi Chess and Mind Games Club, organised a photo exhibition highlighting the history of the sport and the diversity of chess practice.

Earlier, a total of 200 players representing 28 countries battled for top honours at the 24th edition of the Dubai Open Chess Tournament. Dubai Open Chess Tournament is one of the biggest tournaments in the Middle East that attracts players from all over the world.
