Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov: BRICS expansion is reflection of new multipolar world order’s formation

He said this at the 8th BRICS Industry Ministers’ Meeting

Nizhny Novgorod hosted the 8th meeting of BRICS industry ministers. The event was attended by ministers from Russia, Ethiopia, Brazil, United Arab Emirates, China, Iran, India, South African Republic and Egypt, as well as representatives of the Eurasian Economic Commission and United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO). This is reported by the official
website of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia.

Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov noted that the BRICS expansion is a reflection of the formation of a new multipolar world order. He stressed that the countries of the association now account for almost 34 per cent of the world’s territory and more than 45 per cent of its population. In 2023, BRICS contributed about 36 per cent to the global GDP in purchasing power parity.

Initiatives in the chemical industry, pharmaceuticals, the mining sector, intelligent manufacturing and robotics were identified among the promising areas of co-operation. They also discussed the initiative to establish a BRICS Centre of Industrial Competence on the basis of UNIDO, which is at the final stage of preparation. Alikhanov said that Russia, China and India are already ready to finance the project on creation of the BRICS Centre of Industrial Competences on the basis of UNIDO.

“This work has been underway for several years. Today we are already at the finish line – the necessary documentation has been developed, a special project team has been formed within UNIDO to deal with the Centre’s activities. Russia, China and India have already officially confirmed their readiness to make the first tranches to finance the joint work,” the Minister said.

As part of the meeting, the exposition of high-tech industrial production facilities of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia is operating on the territory of Nizhny Novgorod Fair. The exhibition presents the products of more than 50 companies in various fields.
