Egypt celebrates the 72nd anniversary of its National Day
This public holiday commemorates the anniversary of what is known as the July Egyptian Revolution
Egypt’s July Revolution is a turning point in the country’s path to independence, freedom, and dignity. This date is celebrated across the country, marking the proclamation of the modern Republic of Egypt. On July 23, all government offices and ministries are closed, as this day is a national public holiday.
History of the Holiday’s Establishment
The Egyptian Revolution was the result of years of struggle against British rule. After World War II, the Egyptian people demanded independence and political change.
The revolution began when King Farouk I was deposed. He abdicated three days later and left Egypt. Power in the country shifted to the Revolutionary Command Council, and Egyptians were freed from the United Kingdom’s interference and King Farouk’s political interference.
Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar warmly greeted Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatti, the government, and the people of Egypt on their National Day, emphasising India’s continued commitment to the development of their strategic alliance, reports
ANI, a partner of TV BRICS.
“Warm greetings to FM Badr Abdelatty and the government and people of Egypt on their National Day. Reiterate our commitment to take our strategic partnership forward,” he said.
Traditions for celebrating Egypt’s Day
Revolution Day is observed by all as a day to celebrate the independence of the nation from foreign rule. On this day, the sitting president gives a speech publicly praising the 1952 Revolution. There are parades, concerts of music and dance, and celebrations all over the country meant to honour the sacrifices of the “martyrs” of the 1952 Revolution.
