South Africa’s national health insurance system is in the pipeline
The new system will help low-income families save money
South African Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi said the recently passed National Health Insurance (NHI) law will be implemented in phases. This is reported by
Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.
“We will have to start implementing the NHI in phases, as we are already in phase 2. The rest of the building blocks of health will easily fall into place,” Motsoaledi said in his speech in Parliament during the vote on the budget for the fiscal year 2024-2025.
The minister said more than US$3.46 billion has been allocated to the department he heads, a 3.5 per cent increase over the previous fiscal year.
Earlier, it was reported that South African President Cyril Ramaphosa signed the law on national health insurance. The country began to create a system of universal, free health care.
