Egypt is visited by record number of tourists in the first half of 2024

The country’s authorities are implementing a national strategy to support the industry

More than 7,000,069 million tourists visited Egypt in the first half of 2024, it is a record number. This is reported by
Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.

The publication notes that more than 7,000 travellers came to the country in the first six months of this year than in the same period in 2023. Tourism sector revenue exceeded US$6.6 billion, an increase of US$300 million compared to last year.

Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities attributed the trend to implementation of a national strategy that includes increasing the number of international flights and hotel rooms.

The African state plans to increase annual tourist traffic to 30 million by 2028, more than double the 2023 figure. According to the authority, the tourism industry contributed up to 15 per cent of Egypt’s GDP before the COVID-19 pandemic.
