More than 1.4 million small enterprises open in Brazil
About 1.43 million new small businesses were opened in Brazil from January until April this year. This represents 96.7 per cent of the total (1.47 million). Compared to the same period in 2023, the growth in the number of small businesses was 9.1 per cent, when 1.31 million new businesses were opened. The study was conducted by Sebrae, based on data from Brazil’s Federal Tax Service.
April saw the highest number of small businesses opened since April 2023. In 30 days, 373,400 new small businesses were opened. The services sector accounted for 61.6 per cent of the total (230,128 new companies). This is followed by trade (22.9 per cent), manufacturing (7.5 per cent) and construction (7.1 per cent). Among micro and small enterprises (MSEs), medical and dental clinics led the way with 4,600 new businesses. This was followed by administrative offices (4,200 new businesses) and restaurants and food and drink establishments (4,200 businesses).
