Russian University creates method of secure data transmission between devices

The new method allows devices to assess the possibility of interaction and automatically choose the most reliable data transmission path

Georgy Litvinov, a senior lecturer at the Department of Integrated Information Protection at Omsk State Technical University (OmSTU), has developed an innovative method of data transmission in self-organising networks. This approach allows to automatically create reliable information transmission routes. The research has been conducted for more than 5 years with the participation of Associate Professor Evgeny Shcherba. OmSTU is a partner of TV BRICS.

Self-organising networks are a group of devices that can independently choose the optimal path for data transmission between themselves. Traditional methods of determining routes can be vulnerable to hacker attacks and information leaks. The new approach eliminates the use of untrusted devices in data transmission. A reputation assessment of devices is provided to improve the quality of transmission of different types of data.

“There are three basic properties of information – confidentiality, integrity and availability. The developed algorithm is aimed at ensuring availability. If necessary, it is possible to additionally apply encryption, which will provide improvement of all properties of information,” said Georgy Litvinov.

Litvinov notes that the developed algorithm is aimed at ensuring the availability of information. In his opinion, this is an important step in ensuring data security and privacy.

The research was successfully defended at the PhD thesis and can find application in various fields, including emergency response. The method created can be useful for coordinating rescue operations in case of emergencies.
