Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa says country wants to join BRICS
The African country’s leader stated this on the margins of the SPIEF
Zimbabwe wants to join BRICS, this issue was discussed one-on-one with the Russian President Vladimir Putin, said the President of the African country Emmerson Mnangagwa.
“I talked about it with President Putin in a one-on-one meeting. I informed him that I had discussed this topic before with my brother South African President Cyril Ramaphosa,” he said.
At the of St. Petersburg International Economic Forum’s plenary session with Russian President, the Zimbabwean leader also said that mutually beneficial co-operation, partnership and investment based on complementarity is a more sustainable basis for a multipolar world and the formation of new areas of growth.
“We welcome the transformation of the global economic relations and geo-political landscape through BRICS with additional new members, along with other emerging economies. In these endeavours, the role of Africa remains critically important”

The talks between the two leaders took place on the eve of 6 June. On 7 June, the Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the
plenary session of SPIEF that the share of GDP of the BRICS countries, including Saudi Arabia, Iran, UAE, Egypt and Ethiopia, which have joined it, has increased to 36 per cent.
