Unemployment in Chile falls to 8.5 per cent
Chile’s National Institute of Statistics (INE) reported that the unemployment rate fell to 8.5 per cent between February and April. This is reported by
Cronica Digital, a partner of TV BRICS.
The institution said that during the period analysed, the increase in the working population was less than the increase in the supply of jobs.
Among women, the rate was 9.5 per cent, without any deviation. Among men, unemployment was 7.8 per cent.
The sectors of the economy that contributed most to the increase in the employed population were public administration, transport and trade.
It was previously reported that Chile’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 2.3 per cent in the first quarter of 2024. According to the country’s Central Bank, domestic demand increased by 2 percentage points due to improved investment performance.
