India announces plan to reduce country’s dependence on fossil fuels

Country aims to grow biomass on degraded land

India has announced its national mission to improve green hydrogen production by growing biomass on degraded land. The strategy aims to reduce the country’s dependence on fossil fuels.

Ajay Kumar Sood, the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India emphasised the need to utilise both public and private land for sustainable biomass cultivation. This will fulfil energy needs, reduce dependence on imported fuel, generate income and increase bioenergy production. This is reported by
Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.

Experts at the meeting also emphasised the importance of sustainable biomass extraction and processing with protection of the country’s biodiversity. Ideas were expressed to develop strategies for efficient utilisation of biomass and create a roadmap for the development of this sector.

Various projects and initiatives related to the national green hydrogen strategy were presented at the meeting. Experts discussed the prospects of seaweed cultivation, production of various crops like molasses and sugarcane and other aspects of energy security and sustainability.

The importance of research and development for efficient utilisation of resources like grass, sugarcane and cacti was highlighted as a key point in India’s green hydrogen strategy.
